Climate Change Strategy
At SmartCar, we understand that today’s business and private men and women are looking to find the best solution for their needs but also for the environment. That’s why we have taken serious steps to reduce the impact of our corporate fleet on climate change.
SmartCar have commissioned the Sydney-based Carbon Reduction Institute to undertake a complete carbon footprint calculation of our operations. This included emissions from fuel and electricity; flights and waste, as well as embodied emissions in all products and services we sell, offer and use.
The Carbon Reduction Institute determined that SmartCar was responsible for 222 tonnes of CO2e last year. This number was established using internationally recognised methods and standards, and by reporting dynamic emissions quarterly, purchasing carbon credits to offset unavoidable emissions, and undergoing annual re-auditing, SmartCar can proudly say it is truly carbon neutral.
SmartCar purchase energy efficiency carbon credits from the HELP project in New Zealand to offset their unavoidable carbon emissions. The HELP projects distributes energy saving light globes around New Zealand households, while also assisting in educating consumers about the importance of reducing their carbon footprint at home. The HELP credits meet CRI’s stringent assessment criteria for carbon credits and bring along important other benefits.
